Fourth graders are learning about the basic elements of fiction: setting, characters, conflict, plot and theme. Students should be able to define these terms, and also be able to analyze a work of fiction and find these elements in the story. In addition, fourth grade students should be able to use these concepts to help them write their own original narratives.
