The Cay



Fourth graders have started their new book: The Cay, by Theodore Taylor.  It is the story of eleven year old Phillip and how he survives World War II.  At the start of the story Phillip lives with his mother and father on the Caribbean island of Curaçao off the coast of Venezuela.  German submarines, called U-boats prowl the waters around their island.

Today's homework:
1. Math Mr. Spaulding:  p. 357-358.
             Miss W: worksheet.
             Mrs. Thompson: p. 303-304.
2,  In The Cay, people are worried that war will come to their island.  How would you prepare for war?

More Island of the Blue Dolphins



Well, we finished the book!  We are watching the classic 1964 movie version of Island of the Blue Dolphins and comparing it to the book.  There are some differences.  The movie leaves out some incidents and even whole characters, and simplifies things.
